Gum disease is caused by bacteria transforming into plaque and later hardening into tartar. Bacteria is caused by food particles, especially starches and sugar, on the teeth. Bacterial plaque is a sticky substance that releases toxins that damage the periodontal ligament, gums, and roots. Damage to the gums and bone causes bleeding and can even lead to tooth loss.
We have years of experience serving our patients and helping them get rid of periodontal disease. Periodontitis detected early will be removed through regular cleaning methods and recommended advanced oral hygiene practices. In moderate to advanced periodontitis cases, we remove the plaque and stubborn tartar with scaling. Scaling is a deep-cleaning method that removes plaque build-up on the teeth and gums.
Depending on the severity of the disease, we may also prescribe medication or recommend surgical intervention. At Encino Dental Health and Cosmetics, we try our best to prevent tooth loss and inhibit the progression of the disease. However, If the disease has caused damage beyond repair to the gum or tooth, we may have to extract the tooth to prevent the infection from spreading.
